Rescues to Promote
What Started me off?
I have always been mad on dogs, and most of my adult life I have been involved in dog rescue in some way. Several years ago when we first took over our pub, two customers used to meet up for a meal and chat once a week, bringing with them a pack of rescue dogs, which enjoyed their cheesy chips as much as their rescuers enjoyed their omelettes! We used to have collecting tins on the bar for their cause and all was well with the worldSadly, one of the pair suffered a quite severe stroke which rendered him immobile. though in time he regained most of his faculties. The weekly visits ceased and the money piled up in the collecting tins. One day I telephoned the lady and offered to deliver the money to the rescue she supported, to which she replied that she would call in and collect. When she arrived, we had a long chat which culmiated in my offering to put up a notice board in the bar to promote her dogs for rehoming. I quickly got involved with the whole rescue group, helping with fundraising and designing publicity material and a website. One day I received a phone call from the group admin, asking for my help with bringing over a dog from Spain. The admin lady had been told that I would take over! I had no idea where to start, but neither had she! So I dug around and asked many questions until I found the right contacts. A lost and defaced passport later, and with much help from contacts in Spain, the little dog arrived in the UK and went to her adopted home. Thereafter I was made queen of the overseas dogs!Unfortunately there were members of the rescue group that were strongly opposed to the rescue of overseas dogs and I ended up being told to “get your foreign dogs off the page and start your own”. I did exactly that and RescuedDogs4Life Reaching Out Across the Sea was born, with tentative links between the two. It quickly became apparent that this arrangement did not work, and my group split away totally, being renamed simply “Reaching Out”So here I am now, running the Reaching Out group alone but with huge amounts of support from my rescue friends both in the UK and overseas. Please take your time to scroll down the “Our Dogs” page and look at the tiny sample shown here. If youfeel drawn to any and would like to learn more about adopting, please contact me and I will make initial inquiries to the rescuer on your behalf. They are a group of volunteers who dedicate their time and most of their money to helping dogs to get off the streets and out of the Kill Stations, Public Shelters, Pounds and Perrera where such little value is afforded to their sad existences - helping them to find new homes where they can learn to live and be secure and happy.THANK YOU FOR READING THIS
